Mary Ann Collins, 91, died Friday, March 29, 2019. She was born to Herman & Mary (Miller) Peine on November 20, 1927, the eighth of nine children. She was the last surviving member of her family. She lived the first 21 years of her life on a farm near Richmond, Kansas. After her marriage to Mike Collins on February 28, 1949 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond, she lived in the Emerald Community south of Williamsburg, Kansas. Mike & Mary Ann were married 59 years and lived in the same farm house all their married life. On a clear day Mary Ann could look out her east kitchen window and see where she was born 12 miles away. She was a long-time member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in rural Anderson County. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Altar Society. Mary Ann was a farm wife who knew how to manage the challenges that came with farm living. Mike & Mary Ann were a team on the farm, each complementing the other when it came to management of the land and cattle. Mary Ann loved quilting projects and handstitched numerous beautiful quilts. After Mike died in 2008, Mary Ann lived on the farm until 2018 when she moved to Olathe, Kansas to be closer to her children. Survivors include three children and their spouses: Ron (Eunice) of Olathe, Kansas; Gary (Linda) of Clatonia, Nebraska: Catherine (Rod) of Overland Park, Kansas; nine grandchildren: John Collins, Matt Collins, Chris (Alyson) Collins, Michelle (Rick) Geddes, Amanda (Josh) Brokaw, Paul (Sarah) Bennett, Adam Bennett, Colin Bennett, and Annie Bennett; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings: Elizabeth, Theresa, Greg, Leo, Frank, Louis, Lena and Clara. The family wishes to thank the dear friends and relatives who showed great care for our mother in the last years of her life: Dr. Ransom & staff and the caretakers of Rock Creek of Ottawa, Travanse Senior Living in Olathe, and Crossroads Hospice of Lenexa. A funeral mass, burial and dinner will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Emerald Community, 33721 NW Crawford Road, Williamsburg.
