Mary Anderson

Mary Anderson, 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Ottawa Bible Church, 1623 S. Poplar, Ottawa. Mrs. Anderson will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary Monday, August 15, 2016, where family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Mary was born in her parents’ home Wednesday, November 19, 1930, in rural Franklin County. She was the daughter of Alton Leroy and Vergie (Bellis) Rumford. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1948. Mary was united in marriage to Gerald Bond Anderson June 11, 1950, in Ottawa. She was selected as the Ottawa Herald’s June bride in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, March 13, 2015; and parents, Alton and Vergie Rumford. Survivors include her four children, Jan Bloss and husband Ron of Wellsville, Steve Anderson and wife Roberta of Ottawa, Patricia Moss and husband Roy of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Carol Webster and husband Jon of Mebane, North Carolina; three siblings, Donna Braaten and husband Harding of Calgary, Canada, Leon Rumford and wife Bonnie of Ottawa, and Raymond Rumford and wife Linda also of Ottawa; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She adored her family and loved spending time with her 19 grandchildren. Mary enjoyed entertaining and was a wonderful hostess and an excellent cook. She was an active member of the Ottawa Bible Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
