Mary Adel Harmon Horstick

Mary Adel Horstick, age 79, of Richmond, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Richmond Care Center. She was born on Wednesday, April 13, 1932, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Dr. John Millard and Hazel Marie (Sweet) Harmon. Mary grew up in Auburndale, Massachusetts, and moved to Kansas to attend Kansas State University and teach in Ottawa. Since then, she lived in Franklin County except one year in Metz, France and six months in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while her husband was in the military. Mary graduated from Newton High School in Newton, Massachusetts with the class of 1949 and Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education in 1953. She taught Home Economics for two years at Ottawa Middle School and helped farm for many years. She was a member of Richmond United Methodist Church. On Tuesday, March 22, 1955, Mary was united in marriage with Edwin Harry Ed Horstick in Ottawa, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is survived by her: Husband Edwin Harry “Ed” Horstick of the home Son-Jerry Horstick and his wife, Linda, of Richmond, Kansas Son-Tom Horstick and his wife, Linda, of Richmond, Kansas Daughter-Kathleen Horstick of Topeka, Kansas Brother-Dr. Millard Harmon of Delmar, New York Grandchildren-(7) Craig Horstick and his wife, Beth; Amy Mustain and her husband, Dean; Mark Horstick; J. T. Horstick; Adam Horstick; Katelin Horstick; Jordan Horstick She is preceded in death by her: Parents-Dr. John Millard and Hazel Marie Harmon Brother-Tom Harmon SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Richmond United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011. IN STATE: Mrs. Horstick will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Friday evening.
