Marvin Lee Rowland, age 93, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. He was born Monday, January 20, 1919, in Gower, Missouri, the son of Samuel Clayton and Myrtle Elizabeth (Lee) Rowland. Marvin grew up in Gower, Missouri, leaving in 1941 for the military. He lived in different areas of the states and overseas, retiring to Ottawa in 1962. He graduated from high school in Gower with the class of 1937 and received all other training in the military. Following his military career, Marvin worked eighteen years as an X-Ray technician at Ransom Memorial Hospital and retired from Professional Plaza Lab in December of 1990. Marvin served in the United States Air Force and, later, United States Army from April 4, 1941, until August 1, 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served in World War II and in Korea. Marvin was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and past member of the American X-Ray Society and the Kansas State X-Ray Society. On April 7, 1942, Marvin was united in marriage with Velma Nadine Golden in Plattsburg, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1980. On November 26, 1983, Marvin was united in marriage with Susan Sue Sheehan in Ottawa. Sue survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife – Susan “Sue” Rowland of Ottawa, Kansas; Son - Jerry Rowland and his wife, Joella, of Vassar, Kansas; Son – John Rowland and his wife, Penne, of Williamsburg, Kansas; Stepson – Wayne Wolgast of Eudora, Kansas; Stepdaughter – Ellen Kratzberg and her husband, Mike, of Princeton, Kansas; Brother – Willard “Wid” Rowland of Gower, Missouri; Ten-Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren – Seventeen and Seven - Great Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his First Wife – Velma Nadine (Golden) Rowland; Parents – Samuel C. and Myrtle E. Rowland; Daughter – Janis Warrick and Sister – Alma Hixson. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012. IN STATE: Mr. Rowland will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.
