Marvin E. Pinney was born October 28, 1934, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of George E. and Fayetta Rena (Yerkes) Pinney. Marvin lived in Ottawa for twelve years and Michigan Valley six years. In 1956, following his retirement from the Army, he made his home in Topeka, Kansas, until his death Thursday, December 5, 2002, at the age of sixty-eight years. Marvin attended public schools in Ottawa and graduated from Michigan Valley High School with the class of 1953. Mr. Pinney served in the United States Army from July of 1954 to July of 1956, in the Eighth Army, Seventh Infantry Division. He was a member of the Ottawa Boxing Club prior to his military service. Marvin was a caring person. The time he spent with his family and friends was most important to him. Mr. Pinney is survived by two sisters, Shirley Towell and her husband, Joe, of Beavercreek, Ohio, Wilma Pinney of Topeka, Kansas; brother, Leo Pinney of Tipton, Missouri; nephew, Brad Towell of Cincinnati, Ohio; and, niece, Angie Layman and her husband, Chris, of Arlington, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George E. Pinney, Jr.; an infant sister; stepsister, Gerolene Graham; and, stepbrother, Gene Pinney. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2002, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, Ottawa. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Steven Iwersen. IN STATE: Mr. Pinney will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
