Marva Sue Brock

Marva Sue (Vallier) Brock, 72, of Rantoul, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 21, 2018 at the mortuary. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton. Marva was born Sunday, February 24, 1946, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Marvin and Vera (Thomas) Vallier. She attended Garnett High School and graduated with the class of 1964. Marva later went on to attend cosmetology school in Kansas City. She received her license in 1965 and faithfully kept her license active. Marva was united in marriage to Kenneth Brock on January 2, 1971, in Miami, Oklahoma. She and her husband have lived in Rantoul since 1979, moving from Omaha, Nebraska. They spent a lot of time in Omaha, as well as Phoenix, Arizona and Arlington, Texas, moving around with Ken’s construction work. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Brock; four children, Kirk Brock and wife Tracy of Rantoul, Kenny Brock and wife Traci of Memphis, Tennessee, Tanya Erichsen and husband George of White City, Sheila Akers and husband Dennis of Denver, Colorado; brother, Verle Vallier of Richmond; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dewight Welton of Lawrence; and cousin, Don Easedale of Eugene, Oregon. Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Vera Vallier and sister, Delores Welton. She was a hairdresser for ten years, working in the 1960’s-1970’s for Thelma’s Beauty Shop in Ottawa. Marva was also a lifelong homemaker where she has enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and family. Marva’s love of the farm life could be seen every day, from driving trucks, feeding the crew, taking care of their animals, and loving her friends and family. She also practiced “organic” before “organic” was cool, with her love of gardening. Marva was a member of the Ruhamah Baptist Church in Rantoul. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a farmer’s wife that loved to garden and enjoyed going on custom harvest cutting trips with the Vallier family. Marva loved to travel, especially enjoying her time spent in Phoenix. She was very interested in genealogy and would travel to cemeteries to obtain and study ancestral information.
