Marlene Kay Knapp

Marlene Kay Knapp, 68, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 12, 2022, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., same day at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1605 Oak Hill, Lawrence, Kansas 66044. Marlene was born July 5, 1954, in Iola, Kansas the daughter of Donald and Wilma (Morton) Vaughn. She grew up in Lawrence, before moving to Paola, where she lived 14 years. In 2005, Marlene moved to Ottawa where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Lawrence High School with the class of 1972 and continued her education attending Kansas University. On March 22, 1986, Marlene was united in marriage to Stephen Knapp in Lawrence. They later divorced. As a young person she was one of the first girls to throw the Lawrence Journal World and for several years she was a Christian preschool and schoolteacher. She was an active member of the Bible Baptist Church in Ottawa. Marlene loved God and serving Him as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed visiting with her church family. Marlene enjoyed reading her Bible and having devotions, watching game shows and word puzzles. Many things were important in life to Marlene but among the greatest was her family. She was preceded in death by her mother Wilma Vaughn. Survivors include her father Donald Vaughn of Lawrence; daughter Sarah Knapp of Ottawa; stepdaughter Brooke Knapp of Salem, Oregon; and two brothers, David (Rose) Vaughn of Lawrence, and Ron (Kay) Vaughn of Richland, Washington.
