Marland David Erickson

Marland David Erickson, age 86, of Paola, Kansas passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Vintage Park Assisted Living, Paola. Marland was born November 21, 1932 in Wakefield, Nebraska. He was the youngest of four children born to Emmet Emanuel and Francis Dorothy (Swenson) Erickson. He grew up in Lyons, Nebraska where he graduated from high school. He then attended North Park College in Chicago. Marland served his country in the U. S. Naval Air Reserve from November 7, 1951 to November 6, 1959. On January 12, 1955 he went on active duty during the Korean War where he served as an Aviation Machinist's Mate Petty Officer Third Class. He was released from active duty on November 10, 1957 with an honorable discharge. He returned to North Park College and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1963. On September 1, 1962, Marland was united in marriage to Patricia Elaine Anderson near Axtell, Nebraska. They became the parents of three children Kevin, Randall, and Kimberly. Marland held a variety of positions in real property for federal and state agencies. He retired from Fort Chaffee in Barling, Arkansas in the real property department in 1993. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paola. He was very actively involved in his church and enjoyed studying scripture. He also enjoyed gardening, was very musically inclined, loved woodworking, and most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Maynard Erickson, and one sister Lavonne Johnson. He is survived by his wife Patricia of the home; sons Kevin (Lynne) of Olathe and Randy (Brandi) of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter Kim Miller (Brad) of Lane, Kansas; four grandchildren Corinne, Nathan, Jenna, and Emma; brother Eldon Erickson (Nyona) of Lenexa; and many other relatives and friends.
