Marlan J. Buehler, 81, of Ottawa, Kansas died on Monday, November 24, 2008. He was born on Wednesday, August 17, 1927, in Stockton, Utah. He was the son of Otto and Janet (Hamerick) Buehler. He has been an Ottawa resident since the early 1950's, moving from Waverly. In the 1950's, he was employed at Bennett's Creamery working in warehouse and delivery; early 1960's to mid 1970's, was a barber at Palace Barber Shop; and retired from Mid-America Nutrition Services in 1996. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as a Steward's Mate First Class from March 20, 1945 to May 4, 1946. His tour of duty included Manhattan Beach, New York; Ellis Island, New York; Alameda, California; and San Francisco, California. He served aboard the U.S.S. Breckinridge. He was a charter member of Ottawa Bible Church. On December 30, 1950, Marlan was united in marriage with Lela Rose Samsel in Waverly, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2007. Survivors include: Daughter-Karen Haley & her husband, David, of Olathe, Kan. Son-Dale L. Buehler of Olathe, Kan. Son-David Buehler & his wife, Sharon, of Ottawa, Kan. Brother-Gordon Buehler & his wife, Ruth, of Tennessee Sister-Marjor Morris of Texas Brother-Otto Buehler, Jr. & his wife, Delores, of Arizona Grandchildren-Five Gt. Grandchildren-Six He was preceded in death by: Wife-Lela Rose (Samsel) Buehler Father-Otto Julius Buehler Mother-Janet (Hamerick) Buehler Brother-Clayton Buehler Brother-Theron Buehler Sister-Rosella Salisbury Stepmother-Mildred Buehler SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Buehler at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Waverly Cemetery. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Marlan Buehler Memorial Fund to benefit Missions he supported, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
