Mark D. Gibbs, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, just short of his 67th birthday.
Rosary and visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 22779 Metcalf Road, Bucyrus, Kansas 66013. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:000 am. Inurnment will be held after mass at the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Mark was a long time Kansas resident and was retired. His work as a technical editor partnered him with multiple firms such as Caterpillar, H&R Block, Sprint, the US Department of Agriculture, and the USMC. Prior to entering technical writing editing, Mark worked in radio broadcasting in Salina and Hoisington, and at KCFX in Kansas City.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Violet Gibbs, his older brother, John Austin, and older sister, Christine Gabriel.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Schoeni Gibbs, stepdaughter, Emmalee, brother, Robert Austin, sister, Carmen Mueller, sister, Charlotte Acock, their spouses, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Mark was a proud volunteer with the KC Host Committee for the Big 8 and Big 12 Conferences and was named the KC Sports Commission’s “Volunteer of the Year” in 2009. Mark was also involved in coaching soccer and football teams in the Johnson County Youth Sports programs.
Mark loved reading, appreciated a wide variety of music, and freely dispensed a collection of bad jokes and puns. He was an avid sports fan supporting the Chiefs, Royals, and Jayhawks.
