Marjorie M. "Marge" Kitts

Marjorie M. “Marge” Kitts, 92, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Olathe Medical Center. Family will meet with friends at 9:00 A.M., Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church followed by a funeral service at 10:00 A.M. Private family interment Evergreen Mound Cemetery (old Baxter Cemetery), Ottawa, Kansas. Marge was born Thursday, December 21, 1922, in Augusta, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde Jacob and Eva (Whitacker) Chambers. She lived in Pomona, Kansas for seventeen years prior to moving to Ottawa, where she has lived for the last seventy-five years. She graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1940. Marge was united in marriage with Forrest E. Kitts June 9, 1946 in Ottawa. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her son Rodney Kitts and wife Bonita of Ottawa; siblings, Jean Clark of Ottawa, Keith Chambers and wife Cy of Hayden, Idaho, Kay Massengale of Ottawa, and Warren Lee Chambers and wife Alice of Baldwin City; two grandchildren, Monte Kitts and wife Jan of Oklahoma, and Suzi Anne Varwig and husband John of Kentucky; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Rodney Wenta and wife Courtney, Megan, Monica, and Miranda Kitts, and Bonnie Watson; three great-great-grandchildren, Caden, Brooklyn, and James Rhett; thirty-six nieces and nephews; and five sisters-in-law, Charlotte Chambers, Rita Chambers, Betty Erwin, Edith Chambers, and Carol Chambers; She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Martin; and brothers, Wayne, Don, Bob, Norman, Gail, and Virgil Chambers. Her first job out of high school was as a cook/server and soda jerk at the Dutch Maid in Ottawa. She worked in the Kansas City downtown airport with North American Bomber as an original “Rosie the Riveter”. She was also employed at Ottawa Truck and Hubbard Lumber Company as an office manager, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Ottawa First United Methodist Church and the National Association of Rosie the Riveters. She was a great student of life and enjoyed sewing, rose gardening, reading and crossword puzzles.
