Marjorie Eastman Ott

December 26, 1917 — August 10, 2005

Marjorie Eastman 'Marge' Ott was born Wednesday, December 26, 1917, in Matfield Green, Kansas. She was the daughter of Daniel Webster and Emma (Selves) Eastman. Marge grew up in Matfield Green and later lived there for about five years. She also lived in Illinois, Nebraska, Wichita, and at Osage County Lake for seventeen years where they owned a marina. She moved to Ottawa in Franklin County, Kansas in 1957 and Lee's Summit, Missouri in late 2004, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at the age of eighty-seven years. She graduated from Matfield Rural High School with the class of 1935 and attended Emporia State College for three years. She was employed by Beto, Inc. for twenty-five years as a comptroller. Marge was an active member of First United Methodist Church and Sunshine Sunday School Class; Union Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star; Retta Conclave #8, Order of True Kindred; Ottawa Assembly #136, Social Order of the Beauceant; Ottawa Shrine #19, White Shrine of Jerusalem; Master of the Lodge of Women's Free Masonry of Canada; and for many years, a member of Sweet Adeline's. She was a former member and past president of Soroptimists. Marge was a very talented woman. She made and repaired porcelain dolls, studied music, especially piano and organ, enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. When their sons were young, Marge and John were very active as leaders in Scouts and 4-H. She loved spending time with her family and visiting with her many friends. On December 24, 1939, Marge was united in marriage with John Ott in Matfield Green, Kansas. He survives in their home. She is also survived by four sons, William Daniel Ott and his wife, Barbara, of Kingsville, TX, John E. Ott and his wife, Carmela, of Allentown, PA, Michael A. Ott and his wife, Linda, of Ottawa, David E. Ott and his wife, Dianne, of Houston, TX; three sisters, Von Eulert of Wichita, KS, Patricia Crofoot of Wichita, Jean Powell of Broken Arrow, OK; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Phyllis Knocke, Barbara Jenlink; and grandson, Jon Anthony Ott. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to American Cancer Society, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
