Marion Jennie DeCock was born on Saturday, April 6, 1918, in Mont Ida, Kansas. She was the daughter of Jesse Marion and Effie Armetta (Houser) Vanderslice. Marion made her home in Osage City for a few years and moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in the early 1940's, where she made her home until her death Thursday, November 1, 2007, at the age of eighty-nine years. She attended Hawkins School in Franklin County, as well as schools in Ottawa and Waverly, Kansas. Marion worked five years at the Hercules Powder Plant in DeSoto, Kansas, and then in Ottawa for the Bruce Company, which later became the H.D. Lee Company, for a total of more than twenty-five years. She retired as a supervisor in 1985. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary of Ottawa. Marion enjoyed crocheting and created many lovely items for her family and friends to treasure through the years. She also enjoyed playing Bingo while visiting with her friends, fishing, and traveling. On March 19, 1936, Marion was united in marriage with Edward DeCock in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1980. She is also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Merle Cruces; two brothers, Curtis and Alfred Vanderslice; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Marion is survived by four daughters, Patricia A. Griffin and her husband, Rex, of Ottawa, Rosemary Ledom and her husband, Harry, of Ottawa, Diana Dee Brannan and her husband, Paul, of Ottawa, Kathy English and her husband, Robert, of Ottawa; two sons, Donald DeCock and his wife, Shirley, of Ottawa, Alfred DeCock and his wife, Linda, of Ottawa; two sisters, Leona Brown of Wichita, Kansas, Evelyn Powell of Topeka, Kansas; twenty-six grandchildren; sixty-nine great grandchildren; and thirty-five great-great grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. DeCock from noon to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
