Marilyn Mae Underwood, age 85, of Ottawa , Kansas , died Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City , Missouri . She was born on Thursday, December 24, 1925, in Quenemo , Kansas , the daughter of Charles Bush, Sr. and Helen (Baer) Bush. She was a near lifelong resident of Ottawa. Marilyn graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1943. She was a business owner and co-partner of Underwood Supplies in Ottawa. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary and active at the Ottawa Senior Center. In 1943, Marilyn was united in marriage with Louis T. Thornton. He preceded her in death. On Sunday, January 13, 1946, Marilyn was united in marriage with Charles Edward Underwood, Sr. in Ottawa , Kansas . He preceded her in death on January 1, 1996. She is survived by her: Son-Lynn Underwood of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter-Marsha Thornton of Indianapolis, Indiana; Daughter-Esther Underwood of Honolulu, Hawaii; Daughter-Diana “Kay” Underwood of Corona , California; 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her: Parents-Charles, Sr. and Helen Bush; Son-Charles Eddie Underwood, Jr.; Brother-Roger Bush; Brother-Junior Bush; Brother-John Bush and Sister-Virginia Underwood. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011. IN STATE: Mrs. Underwood will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. Friday to service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Central Cemetery in Pomona , Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Ottawa Senior Center or Ottawa Promenaders Square Dance Club, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa , Kansas 66067.
