Marilyn Louise McMillen, 83, of Ottawa, Kansas, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, July 9, 2016. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends visitation from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa. Marilyn was born Friday, June 16, 1933, in Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of Jake and Oda (Schneider) Strobel. She was raised in Richmond, moving to LeLoup from 1951 to 1963, and Ottawa from 1963 until her death. She graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1951. Marilyn was united in marriage with Frank McMillen September 1, 1951, in Richmond. He preceded her in death February 20. 1998. She was also preceded in death by her son, Alan McMillen; parents, Jake and Oda Strobel; and her dog, Ralph. Survivors include her two children, Janis Heck (Larry) of Ottawa, and Shari Bishop also of Ottawa; two siblings, Cleta McDonald of Garnett, and Marvin “Buster” Strobel of Girard; sister-in-law, Barbara Hermreck of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, Erin Coffman (John), Travis Heck (Sarah), Julie Heck (Brandon Wettstein), Jenny Heck (Dalen Welsh), Trudy Kleitz, (Shane), and Kristi McDaniel (Dean); nine great grandchildren, Austin Coffman, Emmett Heck, Warren Heck, Adalyn Welsh, Dylan Kleitz, Garrett Kleitz, Dawson Kleitz, Tristyn Goebel, and Mitchel McDaniel; and one great-great-granddaughter, Gracie Vega Coffman. She was employed as a sales clerk with Metzger Salvage in the 1960s, Our Own Hardware, working in the warehouse, from the 1980s until her retirement in 1998, and 40-plus years selling fireworks with her family. After retirement, Marilyn was a sales clerk for Dollar General from the1990s to the early 2000s. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie Lodge 2700 Auxiliary, and the Ottawa Women’s Bowling Association. Marilyn was a wonderful and loving grandma; she dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, selling fireworks, bus trips to the casino, hand making activity calendars, Bingo, watching children and grandchildren play sports, camping, watching KC Royals and KU Jayhawks on TV, dancing, playing and listening to music.
