Marilyn J. Talbott, 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2015, at the First Christian Church, 1045 S. Hickory, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Marilyn was born Friday, November 1, 1929, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Blanche (Brock) Crawford. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1948. Marilyn was united in marriage with Ray Talbott June 19, 1949, in Ottawa. He preceded her in death January 19, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Benjamin Swearingen. Survivors include her two daughters, Cheryl Swearingen and husband Robert of Ottawa, and Sheila Dale and husband Kenneth of Overbrook; four grandchildren, David Swearingen and wife KanDee of Lenexa, Nathan Swearingen of Lenexa, Anne Baughman and husband Neal of Overbrook, and Carolee Dale and Josh Hoke of Lawrence; and six great grandchildren, Colin Swearingen, Thomas Baughman, Andrew Baughman, Nathaniel Baughman, Emma Hoke, and Josh Hoke, Jr. Marilyn was employed as a cook, in the 1960’s, for Ottawa University cafeteria and a member of the American Restaurant Association; she was also a clerk for the Franklin County Treasurer and served as Franklin County Treasurer until she retired. She was a member of the Warren Black Post No. 60 American Legion Auxiliary, life member of Union Chapter No. 15 Order of Eastern Star. Other memberships include Ottawa Assembly No. 136 Social Order of Beauceant, Retta Conclave No. 8 Order of True Kindred, and Ottawa Shrine No. 19 White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was active with the Veterans Memorial committee and on the board of the middle school restoration program. Hobbies included crafts, china painting, cooking, traveling, genealogy, and making teddy bears for the church.
