Marilyn C. Reinhardt

February 4, 1934 — March 9, 2017

Marilyn Carlson Reinhardt Marilyn Reinhardt passed away on March 9, 2017 after a long fight with two strokes, and then cancer, at the Olathe Medical Center Hospice. She was 83 years old. Marilyn was born on February 4, 1934, in Lindsborg, KS. She graduated from Lindsborg, High School, and went to Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, KS. She met and then married Jerry Reinhardt on October 10, 1954. Jerry was a pilot in the US Navy and the young couple was stationed all over the world. Marilyn was a homemaker and military wife, which means she could do it all, with no complaining. They lived in Whidbey Island, WA, Naha, Okinawa, San Diego, CA, Corpus Christi, TX where their first child, Jay, was born. They moved to Monterey, CA and then to Coronado, CA, before moving to Subic Bay, Philippines. Their second child, Joni, was born there. After being based for two years in Fort Ritchie, MD, the family moved overseas to Bonn, W. Germany. During their three years there, they were able to travel all over Europe and Scandinavia. They moved back to Washington DC, where Jerry completed his Navy career by retiring after 23 years. The family moved back to Kansas to be close to relatives. They began Reinhardt Construction Co. and Marilyn took care of the business side. During this time, Jerry began carving carousel horses and Marilyn would paint them. They were regulars at the local Renaissance Festival and area woodcarving shows. The love of merry-go-rounds led to fundraising and the building of the CW Parker Carousel Museum in Leavenworth, KS. They spent many hours volunteering there, before and after it was built in 2005. Marilyn was the chief archivist and records keeper. She coordinated all the parties and events that took place there. In addition, she was the National Carousel Association"s archivist from 2005 to the present. She loved riding on the carousel with all three of her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Stilwell United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; Ben and Esther Carlson, and her sister, Lorraine (Mel) Moerer. Her surviving family members are her husband of 62 years, Jerry Reinhardt, her sister, LaVerne Dickmann, brother, Leland (Angie) Carlson, son, Jay (Kathy) Reinhardt, and their three children; Amy, Julie and Ted, and her daughter, Joni Reinhardt. Marilyn will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
