Marie McCullough , 93 of Paola passed away Sept. 25 at the North Point Care Center. Services for Marie will be Mon. Sept 28 at 10:30 A.M. at the Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel with a visitation Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery. Memorials to Odyssey Hospice,to leave the family a message go to penwellgabelpaola.com Marie was born March 18, 1916 in Olpe, Kansas to Chris Krueger and Sally Schroadter Krueger. She was one of seven children. Marie"s family moved to Richmond, Ks. where she attended the Silver Dale Country School through the sixth grade. She attended Richmond Grade School for her 7th and 8th years and Richmond High School for 9th grade after which she quit attending school and went to work. Marie went to work for the Frank Haney family cleaning houses and helping with young children for $2.00 a week. Marie met Cecil Wayne (Pete) McCullough while in the 9th grade and when she turned 18, she and Pete were married at the Anderson County courthouse in Garnett, Ks. Pete and Marie went on their honeymoon to Topeka, Ks. in Pete"s Model T Ford. Their first home was near Rantoul, Ks. In the early 1940"s they moved to California where Pete worked in the shipyards. They later returned to Kansas and lived on farms in Rantoul, Lane and Paola. Marie was a homemaker and to her and Pete three children were born. Marie moved from the farm to Paola in 2005 where she lived until her death. Preceding Marie in death were her parents, two sons, James Dean and Richard Lee, three sisters, Ann, Clara, and Judy and her husband, C.W. Surviving are one son, Ray and his wife, Kay McCullough of Mount Ida, Ark., one brother Chris Krueger of Ottawa, Ks., two sisters, Margaret Wright of Osawatomie, Ks., and Betty Corwine of Ottawa, Ks. Marie is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
