Maria Carmen Lear was born on Wednesday, September 14, 1977, in Hawaiian Gardens, California. She was the daughter of Michael Dean and Peggy (Atchison) Lear and Rick and Barb Ledom. A lifelong resident, Maria made her home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until her death on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the age of thirty-one years. Maria graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1996. She worked as a merchandise processor for American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. in Ottawa. She was an avid pool player and member of Northeast American Pool Association. She was also a dedicated volunteer for Relay for Life and worked charity events at Sandstone in Kansas City, Kansas. Maria was a devoted mother, daughter, aunt, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Darbie Lear, and son, Dalton King, both of Ottawa; parents, Peggy and Michael Lear, of Ottawa, and Rick and Barb Ledom of Williamsburg, Kansas; five sisters, Jerri Beckwith and her husband, Jim, of Richmond, Kansas, Jennifer Swearingen of Ottawa, Capri Kirkland of Covington, Georgia, Shana Ledom of Williamsburg, Kansas, Jessica Shapley of Ottawa; brother, Charles Barnett of Spanaway, Washington; several nieces and nephews; and maternal grandparents, Owen and Shirley Atchison. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Eunice Ledom. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Maria after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary where the family will meet with friends from 5:30 to 7:00 Wednesday evening.
