Margaret Lee Fleming was born August 16, 1917, south of Centropolis in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Joseph Turner and Ruby (VanBriggle) Shipps. She grew up in Franklin County, moving to Ottawa, Kansas, after her marriage, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at the age of eighty-five years. Margaret graduated from Appanoose High School. She was a lifelong homemaker. For over twenty years, she was a member of Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Ottawa, and 1986 Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year. She was also a member and tour director of the Oasis Club, of Ottawa. While her son was growing up, Margaret was very active in scouting and school activities. She liked to help and care for people and, therefore, greatly enjoyed her volunteer work at the hospital. On September 15, 1940, Margaret was united in marriage with Lloyd Robert Fleming at Pomona, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1981. She is also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and one sister. Mrs. Fleming is survived by her son, Robert Fleming and his wife, Paula, of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, John Shipps of Iola, Kansas; sister, Vera Montague of Pomona, Kansas; and, three grandsons, Andrew Robert Fleming, Ryan Joseph Fleming, and Charles Fleming, all of Ottawa, Kansas. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2002, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Henry A. Roberts, Jr. IN STATE: Mrs. Fleming will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 1:00 to 2:00 Sunday afternoon. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
