Maliveene "Sammy" Chapman

Maliveene E. Sammy Chapman, 88, of Eudora, Kansas, died on Sunday, April 5, 2009. She was born on Sunday, April 18, 1920, at Linn Creek, Missouri. She was the daughter of Madison Edward and Jennie Lee (Houser) Johnson. She and the family moved with her husband, Carl, on construction projects in Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas. Following retirement, from 1972 to 1976, they lived in Norwood, Missouri. In 1976, she and Carl moved to Ottawa to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In 1984, she moved to Spring Hill, Kansas, then to Eudora, Kansas in 2005 to live with her daughter. Sammy graduated from Herrington, Kansas High School with the class of 1938. In 1939, she attended MacGregor's Beauty School in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a beautician for fifteen years; during WWII, she worked for Lake City Ordinance Plant in North Kansas City, Missouri as an inspector of 47mm shells; and from 1951 to 1964, she was a cook for Louisburg, Kansas High School. From 1976 to 1986, she was a member of First Christian Church of Ottawa. She was currently a member of Hillcrest Christian Church of Overland Park, Kansas. Sammy was united in marriage with Kenneth Lange who was killed in action during World War II. On October 27, 1944, Sammy was united in marriage with Clarence Carl Chapman in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1983. Survivors include: Son-Richard Lynn Chapman & his wife, Linda, of Waverly, Kan. Daughter-Karen Leann Moore & her husband, Dave, of Eudora, Kan. Stepdaughter-Erma Maxine Graves of Lawrence, Kan. Stepdaughter-Bonnie Jean Snedeger of Lawrence, Kan. Twelve- Grandchildren Fourteen- Gt. Grandchildren She was preceded in death by: Husband-Clarence Carl Chapman, First husband-Kenneth Lange, Father-Madison Edward Johnson, Mother-Jennie Lee (Houser) Johnson, Son-Kenneth Neal Chapman, Son-Edward Carl Chapman, Brother-Edd Warner Johnson, Sister-Thelma H. Weir, SERVICES: Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
