Madison “Maddie” Nicole Brooks, 17, of Ottawa, Kansas died Saturday, March 6, 2021 at AdventHealth Ottawa as the result of a motor vehicle crash. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium, 301 S. Hickory, Ottawa. The service will be live streamed on Vimeo channel, direct link https://vimeo.com/event/781141 Family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Madison was born April 26, 2003, at Merriam, Kansas, the daughter of Eric Brooks and Bridget (Thompson) Bowman. She grew up in Garnett, Kansas until age 8 attending school at both Greeley and then Garnett. At age 8 Madison moved to Ottawa with her mother where she made her home until her death. Madison was a senior at Ottawa High School and was set to graduate in May with 29 college credit hours in a variety of courses including her CNA Certificate with a 3.8 GPA. She was an Early Childhood Pathway completer and a concentrator in the Health Science Pathway. Madison planned to attend Pittsburg State University in the fall to major in Elementary Education. Madison was a lover of country music and no matter what she was doing her music was playing in the background. She loved animals but especially cats. She spoiled her cat Porky Sue rotten and was well on her way to one day living up to the crazy cat lady label. Madison enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially her best friend Rylee whom she was inseparable from. She was a hostess at PrimeTime Grille for the last year. Madison could always be counted upon to help with her siblings. From babysitting to picking up/dropping off kids at school, sporting practices or blowing bubbles in the front yard, she was always there. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Lelani Lesh and her paternal aunt, Stephanie VanGorp. Madison will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who survive her including her father Eric Brooks of Garnett, and mother Bridget Bowman and stepfather Ryan Bowman of the home; two sisters, Kenzington Bowman and Braci Bowman of the home; four brothers, Brendyn Bowman and Camdyn Bowman of the home, Corbin Brooks of Garnett and Alex Brummel of Overland Park; grandma Cathy Brooks of Lawrence; grandma Donna Bowman of Garnett; grandpa Dale Brooks of Welda; grandpa Bradford Thompson of Ottawa; grandpa Randy Bowman also of Ottawa; bonus grandpas, Jay Wirick of Preston, Kansas and Craig Kroeker of Pawnee Rock, Kansas; great grandma Dorothy Bowman of Ottawa; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
