Lynn Murray was born April 14, 1924, at Polo, Missouri. He was the son of John and Frances (Crawford) Murray. He grew up in Braymer, Missouri. After graduating high school, he moved to California and joined the Air Force. Following World War II, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, until the Korean War, when he was recalled, and then lived at several military bases until 1968, when he retired from the Air Force and moved to Ottawa. He lived in Lenexa, Kansas, from 1975 to 1980, moving to Alliance, Nebraska. He returned to Ottawa in 1995, where he made his home until his death Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at the age of seventy-eight years. Lynn graduated from Braymer (Missouri) High School with the class of 1942. Following his military career, he was a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad from 1970 to 1995, working in Kansas City, Kansas, and Alliance, Nebraska. He was a highly decorated fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. During World War II, he flew in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. During the Korean War and the Vietnam War, he was a Squadron Flight Commander, flying the F102 during missions, and training pilots, retiring in 1968 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Legal Defense Foundation, Republican National Committee, National Republican Congressional Committee, George W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation, and National Right-to-Work Foundation. On July 25, 1950, Lynn was united in marriage with Mabel A. Caleb at Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1981. Also, preceding him in death are his son, Randal Scott Murray; his parents; and, four brothers, Gene, Lloyd, Kenny, and John Murray. He is survived by his daughter, Shelby Coolidge and her husband, Paul, of Ottawa; brother, Robert Murray and his wife, Edie, of Lenexa; sister, Verna Murphy of Annadale, Virginia; grandson, Sean Coolidge; step grandson, Curtis Coolidge; step granddaughter, Kim Anderson; and, two step-great granddaughters, Jadyn Coolidge and Olivia Coolidge. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2002, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Michael Schooley. IN STATE: Friends may call at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Private interment will be held following the service at Muncie Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to George W.
