Lyle M. Cox, 80, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at the Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. He was born May 27, 1927, to Charles Leroy and Maude Alma (Traylor) Cox in rural Coffey County. He married Nellie Rose Chamber April 8, 1947, at Mound Valley. She survives. He was a life-long farmer and rancher. He was also a conservation engineer for the U.S. government for 13 years. After retirement in 1988, he was a surveyor for many years. He had lived in Otis, near Larned, near Williamsburg and in Osage City. He was a member of the Kansas Water Resource Board and Mount Pleasant Community Church. Survivors also include a son, Melvin Cox, Osage City; a brother, Eldon Leroy Cox, Nixa, Mo.; a sister, Irene Naomi Cox, Ottawa; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lauretta Jean Cox; and a sister, Elva Lucille Cox. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Mt. Pleasant Community Church, Lyndon, Kansas, 10 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2007. IN STATE: Lyle will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1 p.m. Sunday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 3 to 4 Sunday afternoon.
