Lucille P. Gatlin, 90, of rural Louisburg , Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Miami County Medical Center. Services will be Fri. September 26, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Somerset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Paola Public Library. Lucille was born April 13, 1918, in Fall City, Nebraska, to Edward and Anna Laura (Strater) Standiford.. She grew up in Kansas City area, while attending and graduating school from Kansas City, Mo. Lucille married Charles Gatlin on December 25, 1940, in Olathe, Kansas. In their early years they worked together in an airplane factory in Michigan. After leaving Michigan, they made their home in rural miami county, then moving to Paola in 1953, where their sons were born and raised. Her passions were sewing, singing, cooking, pie baking, reading, and helping her husband in his garden. She was always ready to give a helping hand to her family and to whoever was in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers; Floyd, Harold, and Raymond Standiford, sisters; Naomi Hitchcock, and Georgia Sherrill. Survivors include two sons, Bill Gatlin and wife Jean of Louisburg, Kansas, John Gatlin and wife Elaine of Emporia, Kansas, three grandchildren, William Gatlin of Paola, Kansas, Jeff Gatlin of Louisburg, Kansas, and Laura Gatlin of St. Louis, Missouri, two great grandchildren Eva and Danie Gatlin, and one sister Virginia Tharp, of Phoenix, Arizona. Lucille will be missed by many.
