Lowell Chester Broers, 94, Ottawa, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Wellsville Manor Care Center, Wellsville. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. He was born Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1914, at Eudora to Joe and Marie (Spitzli) Broers. He moved with his family at the age of 5 to the LeLoup area and to his present address in 1951. He attended Pleasant Valley schools. He served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre from May 12, 1944, until April 12, 1946, in the U.S. Navy. He attained the rank of Seaman First Class. He was a lifelong farmer. He married Thelma Mae Morton Nov. 25, 1949, at Gardner. She preceded him in death July 22, 2002. Survivors include daughters, Nancy Mae Weeks, and her husband, Leslie, Ottawa, and Anita Marie Due, and her husband, Dave, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Joe F. Broers, Wellsville; grandsons, Marc Coons and Shane Coons, both of Ottawa; and great-grandchildren, Camdyn Coons, Avry Coons, Cara Coons and Aubree Coons. He also was preceded in death by a son, Dale Lynn Broers; brothers, Bert W. Broers, Earl Broers, Wiley Broers, Otis Broers, Loren Broers and Wendell Broers; and a sister, Vona Averill. Friends may pay their respects after 9 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
