Louise K. Green

October 21, 1927 — October 27, 2015

Louise Katherine Green, 88, of Garden City, Kansas and Phoenix, Arizona, passed away at her home in Garden City, Tuesday, October 27, 2015. Louise was formerly a longtime resident of Overland Park, Kansas and Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Local survivor is her sister, Betty Sands of Ottawa. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Louise is survived by her husband of 69 years, James “Jim” Green; two daughters, Dee Jones and husband Tom of Garden City, Kansas, and Cindy Johnston and husband Bill of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Louise was born in 1927 in Basehor, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Theno. Jim Green managed to steal her heart in 1944 and they married in 1946 when he returned from service in WWII. Louise was an active member of the Catholic Church, rarely missing a Sunday mass. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to their two daughters, and retired from the Federal Civil Service. Louise and Jim were a very social couple who never knew a stranger and had many wonderful friends over the years. They enjoyed traveling in the summers to Leech Lake in Minnesota, exploring the United States in their motor home, and spending time with their family and friends. Louise loved to shop, and demonstrated remarkable stamina on trips to the mall. She also enjoyed decorating her homes, taking walks, and in her later years, volunteering at Banner/Boswell Hospital in Phoenix. Louise was genuine, and kind, and her family and friends will miss her dearly. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or alz.org Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Louise’s Tribute Wall at www.dengelmortuary.com
