Louise Elda Brittingham

September 23, 1913 — June 27, 2005

Louise Elda Brittingham was born Tuesday, September 23, 1913, at Muncie, Kansas, the daughter of Alfred Newton and Gertrude Olive (Debus) Horstman. Louise grew up in the Wyandotte County, Kansas area. She then moved to Fort Scott, where she lived for many years. In 1951, she moved to the Ottawa area and Pomona in 1970, where she made her home, until her death Monday, June 27, 2005, at the age of ninety-one years. She graduated from Welborn High School with the class of 1931. In 1934, she graduated from Fort Scott Community College with a Teacher's Certificate. Louise worked at H.D. Lee in Ottawa, from 1966, until retirement in 1976. She also worked as a cook at the Franklin County Sale Barn and the L & L Restaurant, both of Ottawa. She was a member of the Tauy Baptist Church, Lady Oriental Shrine of North America Keelah Court #49 and High Priestess 1972 to 1973. She was past Nobel Grand of the Rebekah Lodge of Pomona; member of Pomona Flower Club, Boyd Ladies Aid in Franklin County; and 76'ers Craft Club. On September 1, 1935, Louise was united in marriage with Ivan T. Brittingham, Sr. at Lamar, Missouri. They celebrated nearly fifty-four years of marriage. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1989. She is also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Esther Peck, Jean Brown, Ethel Stumpff, Mary Horstman; brother, Alfred Horstman, Jr.; granddaughter, Melissa Brittingham; and great-grandson, Michael Higginbotham, Jr. Mrs. Brittingham is survived by four sons, Kenneth Brushwood and his wife, Louise, of Kansas City, MO, Willard 'Bill' Brittingham and his wife, Deanna, of Kansas City, MO, Ivan Troy Brittingham, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Pomona, Max Brittingham and his wife, Sandy, of Pomona; five daughters, Ivana Higginbotham and her husband, Loren, of Mapleton, KS, Rebecca Roush and her husband, Duane, of Greeley, KS, Carolyn Schuster of Greeley, KS, Marolyn Foster and her husband, James, of Pomona, Sharon Falk and her husband, Bruce, of Stafford, KS; brother, Lee 'Bud' Horstman and his wife, Sis, of Shawnee, KS; nineteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; sixteen great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; and many friends. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, with committal at 2:00 p.m. at Holmes Cemetery in Prescott, Kansas. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Brittingham at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Holmes Cemetery in Prescott, Kansas, 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005. MEMORIALS: Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner Children`s Hospital or Tauy Baptist Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
