Louis Nunez, 90, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. A rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2014, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends visitation at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Louis was born Tuesday, February 5, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Paul and Catalina (Valtierra) Nunez. He grew up in Kansas City until the age of eleven, moving to Mexico where he lived until nineteen. After serving in the Army, he returned to the Kansas City area, before moving to Ottawa in 1952. Louis graduated from high school in Mexico in 1938. Louis was united in marriage with Juanita Blanco July 20, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded his in death May 20, 1980. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Gloria Nunez. Survivors include his two sons, Louis Nunez, Jr. and Rick Nunez both of Ottawa, Kansas; two half brothers, Eliseo Nunez of Ottawa and Paul Nunez of Kansas City, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Nicole Nunez and Ricky Nunez, Jr. both of Olathe. He started working as a mechanic in 1938 and continued for Price Motor Company, Ottawa, from 1953 to 1957. In 1957, he opened Louie’s Garage in Ottawa, as the owner-operator, retiring in 1985. Louis served in the United States Army during World War II from April 1943 until February 1946. He served in the European Theater as tank mechanic and received the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, Ottawa. The family suggests memorial contributions to Mt.
