Louis E. Klein

Louis Elmer Klein, age 80, of Paola, passed away January 19, 2016 at his home. Louis was born July 25, 1935 to Elmer and Mary (Kaufman) Klein in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his parents were dairy farmers in Shawnee, Kansas. Louis was married to Judith Annette Hall for 27 years and they had 5 children. He was married on July 9, 1988 to Guylene Block. Louis had his first job with the Shawnee, Kansas Belgium Farmers from age 9-17 years. He picked vegetables from the gardens and they sold them at the Kansas City, Missouri downtown farmers market at the midnight sale. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1956-1958. Louis worked with Harold Cantrell for Clarence Vanlerberg constructing basements and foundations for 40 years. He then worked for Mark Debrabander in the foundation construction business for the last 10 years. He was also a cattle farmer and grew crops and hay. Louis was an avid gardener growing tomatoes, radishes and watermelons. He also enjoyed hunting, using a double barrel shotgun and going to western Kansas to hunt pheasant. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Catholic School, Miami County Cancer Foundation or Vitas Hospice. Louis was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, of the home; children Kim Redman of Lebanon, MO, Chris Klein of Paola, Keith Klein of Overland Park, John Klein of Paola, and Eric Klein of Olathe; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
