Louis H. Dengel, 71 235 S. Hickory, longtime Ottawa funeral director, died November 3, 1973 at Research Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ottawa University Chapel with Rev. Harold Weaver officiating. Holy eucharist and prayers of intercession was held at 7:30 p.m., Monday in Grace Episcopal Church. Dengel was born Jan. 17, 1902, at Kansas City, Kan., the son of Henry E. and Elsa, (Segebrecht) Dengel. He married Vada Hodges, April 30, 1931 at Kansas City, Kansas Dengel was associated with the Mark B. Long Mortuary in San Bernardino, Calif., where he lived from 1925 until moving to Ottawa in 1944. He owned and operated Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa until his death. He was a member of Ottawa Lodge No. 18 AF& AM, Ottawa Chapter No. 7 Royal Arch Masons, Ottawa Council No 18 Royal and Select Masters, Tancred Commandery No. 11, Knights Templer, Order of High Priesthood of Kansas, Order of Silver Trowl of Kansas, Union Chapter No. 15 Order of Eastern Star, Retta Conclave No. 8 Order of True Kindred, Fedelity Shrine No 11 Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem of Lawrence, Scottish Rite Bodies and Abdallah Shrine both of Kansas City, Kans., the Associated Funeral Directors Service of America and Elks Lodge No. 803. Dengel was a charter and 50 year member of the International Order of DeMolay and holder of the DeMolay Legion of Honor, a vestryman and member of Grace Episcopal Church, director of services to military families of the Franklin County Red Cross, past high priest of the Royal Arch Masons, past illustrious master of Royal and Select Masters and past patron of OES. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Walter L. Dengel, Ottawa; a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Naomi) Coons, Garden City, a brother, Dr. Walter C. Dengel, Shawnee Mission, a sister, Mrs. Jules (Elma) Comby, Tucson, Ariz, and seven grandchildren.
