Our loving mother, Lorene L. Blunk, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2010. She was born on Friday, June 18, 1920, in Moline, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer and Grace (Jackson) Shaw. She lived in Chanute, Kansas until 1956, moving to Ottawa, where she made her home until her death. Lorene graduated from Chanute High School with the class of 1940. She worked as a Certified Nurse's Assistant in 1958 at Cedar House Nursing Home in Ottawa and Crestview Nursing Home, also in Ottawa, from 1959 to retirement in 1997. She attended North Baptist Church in Ottawa. Lorene loved spending time with her family and adored her grandchildren. She enjoyed going out to eat, shopping and listening to country music. On July 3, 1940, Lorene was united in marriage with Howard Lee Dryden in Chanute, Kansas. He preceded her in death. In 1966, she was united in marriage with Myron Blunk. He preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gene Shaw. She is survived by her son, Jerry Dryden and his wife, Sharon, of Ottawa; two daughters, Sharon Jones and her husband, Jim, of Ottawa, Barbara Rice and her husband, Gary, of Ottawa; six grandsons, Scott Jones, Sr., Kevin Jones and his wife, Rhonda, Derek Jones and his wife, Angela, Robert Rice, Ron Rice, Rodney Dryden and his wife, Barbara; granddaughter, Belinda Dryden; and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010, with interment at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Mrs. Blunk will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday and after 8:30 a.m. Friday to the service hour.
