Lorena White was born April 22, 1909, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of James A. and Cora Bell (Jones) Jones. She was a lifelong resident of Ottawa, moving to Lawrence, Kansas in 1999, then to Ava, Missouri, where she made her home until her death Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the age of ninety-three years. She attended schools in Ottawa. Lorena was a lifelong homemaker. While a young girl, she worked at Lathan Poultry House and the North American Hotel Caf' in Ottawa. Mrs. White attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Arts and crafts and making wooden toys with her husband were things she enjoyed. She made many afghans and fancy-work for her nieces and nephews. Christmas and birthdays were always full with things she and Warren had made. She loved all kinds of flowers and her tomato plants, even teaching some of her family how to plant and take care of them. She would can and freeze everything from her garden and would share at every family dinner. She is remembered by all her nieces and nephews as a funny and loving 'Aunt Renie', as she was affectionately called. On December 22, 1928, Lorena was united in marriage with Warren White at Ottawa, Kansas. They were privileged to share seventy years of marriage. He was the apple of her eye. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1999. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene Rutherford, Ina Mae Ferguson; four brothers, Earl, Ivan, Glen, and Carl Jones; and, nephew, David Morgan. She is survived by seven nieces, Barbara Ferguson/Greischar of McPherson, Nancy Rutherford/Hawkins of Lawrence, Donna Jones/Hickock of CA, Shirley Jones/Mitchell of St. Joe, MO, Iva Kay Jones/Wood of Overland Park, Sue Jones/Grey of CA, Twila Jones/Brosz of CA; eleven nephews, Lawrence Morgan of CA, Harry Morgan of Eudora, Henry Morgan of Wyoming, Meredith Allen Rutherford of Lawrence, Donald Ferguson of Overland Park, Robert D. Ferguson, Sr. of N. Little Rock, AR, Jim K. Ferguson of Braman, OK, Jim Jones of Ottawa, Dale Jones of CA, Douglas Jones of CA, Gary Jones of CA; many great nieces and nephews; and, two sisters-in-law, Marian Jones of Rio Linda, CA, Elizabeth Jones of Fruita, CO. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery 2:00p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003. OFFICIANT: Rev. William Weber IN STATE: Mrs. White will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00p.m. Wednesday, where the family will meet with friends 12:30 to 1:30 Thursday afternoon and proceed to Highland Cemetery for graveside services at 2:00pm.
