Loren Evison

Loren Thomas Evison, 82, Paola, KS, died at North Point Nursing Home on January 6, 2014. He was born January 17, 1931 to Thomas and Florence Davidson Evison of Parsons, KS. Loren was the youngest of the family with four older sisters. In 1949, he graduated from Parson High School. Loren served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, driving trucks and constructing bridges during the Korean War. He met his future wife, Lois Rogers while attending Pittsburg State University for his BA and MA degrees in Social Science. They were married June 18, 1961 at the First Christian Church in Louisburg, Kansas. Mr. Evison, also known as Mr. 'E', started his teaching career at Dearborn, MO, Fort Scott Community College; Nebraska School of the Deaf, Omaha, Nebraska then to Stillwater, OK where he was a Graduate Assistant in the History Department. He started teaching History, Sociology and Government at Spring Hill High School. Over the years, he was a teacher, Vice Principal then Principal of SHHS before he retired in 1994. Mr. Evison was very active in the Lighthouse Presbyterian Church, Red Cross as a Coordinator and President, and involved in Master Gardeners. His hobbies included family history, running; snow skiing, gardening, golfing, and Chictionary. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Thelma Compton (Gus); Vera Kimbel (Red) and Pauline Long of Parsons, KS, Della Ringo (Jack) of Hickman Mills, MO, and a daughter, Debra Watson, of Oviedo, FL. Mr. Evison is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home, and daughters, Sheri Gossard (Jack) of Paola, and Traci Evison, of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Austin and Audrey Watson with many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, or the Lighthouse Presbyterian Church.
