Loren Edmund 'Pete' Triplett was born October 21, 1916, at Princeton, Kansas. He was the son of Guy and Winnie (Day) Triplett. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, he made his home in Ottawa from the mid 1940's until his death Monday, April 1, 2002, at the age of eighty-five years. He was a firefighter for the Ottawa Fire Department for twenty-five years, retiring in 1981. He served with the United States Army in the 21st Infantry during World War II from September 24, 1946, to June 7, 1947, in the Pacific Theater. Pete never knew a stranger, often striking up meaningful conversations with people he just met. He enjoyed eating out with his family and looked forward to his Sunday morning breakfasts with his sisters. In the warm summer months, he enjoyed refinishing furniture. On May 10, 1949, Pete was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Smith at Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1986. He is also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Louise Walker and Lois Hunter. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Higbie and her husband, Roger, of Williamsburg, Penny Fetcho and her husband, John, of Arkansas City; two sisters, Leta Service and Erma Jean Finch, both of Ottawa; granddaughter, Heather Higbie; grandson, Dustin Higbie; and several great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Jeff Higbie. IN STATE: Mr. Triplett will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
