Loran R. Waterman, 92 of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Hufft Cemetery near Eldridge, Missouri. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Waterman at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Loran was born on July 11, 1921 in Eldridge, Missouri, the son of Oat and Ethel (Shadrick) Waterman. He was raised and attended schools in Eldridge and lived in various locations with his work before moving to Ottawa in 1964. On June 28, 1958 Loran was united in marriage with Myrtle May Williams in Camdenton, Missouri. She survives of their home after fifty-five years of marriage. Other survivors include his son Doug Waterman of Ottawa; three grandchildren, Lacey, Morgan and Ava Waterman; and sister, Marie Childers of Lebanon, Missouri; He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ocia Gregory. Loran was an owner operator of hotels and motels throughout the United States for about fifty years, retiring in 2003. When Loran and Myrtle moved to Ottawa they operated the North American Hotel and the Royal Manor Motel. He was a ticket and freight agent for Trailways and Greyhound Bus Lines for twenty-five years. They also owned and operated the Dairy Cream in Ottawa. Loran served in the United States Army as a Carburetor Specialist during World War II from August 13, 1942 to November 10, 1945, in the European and African Theaters. He obtained the rank of Technician 5. Loran was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He was a hard worker and a loving husband, father and Papa who supported and cared for his family throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever.
