Loleta Downey, age 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010. She was born on Monday, December 3, 1923, in Blue Ridge, Missouri. She was the daughter of Amos and Ruby (Shain) Gillespie. Loleta lived in the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas from 1950 to 1985. In 1985, she moved to Pomona, Kansas and Ottawa in 2009. She was a homemaker. During World War II, she was employed as a riveter in a bomber assembly plant. She attended Pomona Assembly of God. On Friday, November 19, 1943, Loleta was united in marriage with Earl Downey in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2004. She is survived by her: Son-Fred Downey of Ottawa, Kansas; Son-Mike Downey and his wife, Suzy, of La Cygne, Kansas; Son-Victor Downey and his wife, Cindy, of Owasso, Oklahoma; Daughter-Doris Lewis and her husband, Jim, of Pomona, Kansas; Daughter-Connie Dennett and her husband, Terry, of Littleton, Colorado; Sister-Audrey Custer; Sister-Pauline Wood; Sister-Beverly Thompson; Brother-Darryl Gillespie; Brother-Clayton Gillespie; Fifteen -Grandchildren-Gt. Grandchildren and Two Gt. Gt. Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her: Parents-Amos and Ruby Gillespie; Brother-Randall Gillespie; Sister-Delyn Isenbarger and Sister-Wilma Coots. SERVICES: Graveside Services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010. IN STATE: Mrs. Downey will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, where the family will meet with friends at 9:30 Monday morning.
