Lola Mae (Sink) Broers, 60, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, at the Richmond Care Center, Richmond, Kansas, after a ten-year battle with a rare illness, cortico-basal ganglionic degeneration. She had been a resident of the Center since 2001. She lived the majority of her life in the Ottawa and Franklin County area. Lola attended Baxter and Appanoose High Schools in Franklin County and graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1964. Lola worked two years at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence, then provided day care for children for several years; worked twelve years at Our Own Hardware in Ottawa, and two years as custodian for the First Christian Church, also in Ottawa, retiring in March 1998. She worked at the Wellsville Senior Center as a relief supervisor in 1999 and 2000. She helped with the work on their dairy farm over the years and also volunteered as a 4-H project leader for eleven years. Lola`s memberships and associations over the years included Baxter Social Hour Club; Lincoln PTA; Cloverleaf 4-H Club (leader for 10 years); the Susannas at Trinity United Methodist Church; First Christian Church (deaconess and custodian); all of Ottawa, Kansas; and was currently a member of Wellsville United Methodist Church. On March 13, 1965, Lola was united in marriage with Gene A. Broers at Wellsville, Kansas. They celebrated forty-one years of marriage. He survives of their home. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2006. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Broers at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends 6:30 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Lola Mae Broers` Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
