Lola E. Spratt-Beets, age 85, of Rantoul, Kansas, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, in Rantoul, Kansas. She was born on Saturday, January 1, 1927, in Paola, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde J. and Edith V. (Edgell) Beets-Bartlett. Lola was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, living in the Rantoul area for many years. Lola attended grade school at Grain Valley then went to Osawatomie High School in which she received her GED twenty-six years later and was proud to have received an 86%. Lola studied Income Tax and Bookkeeping and was a bookkeeper for twenty-two years. During World War II she worked at Woolworth Department Store. She worked as a cake decorator for many years and ran her own business from her home so she could be with her children. She delivered cakes as far as Kansas City. Lola also worked with Caylor Brothers in 1967 and H & R Block for fourteen years, three of those years as an Office Manager. From May 1981 until 1983, she worked for Don Bloomer as a receptionist/bookkeeper. Lola was a member of the Ruhamah Baptist Church. On March 12, 1943, Lola was united in marriage with Clifford J. Spratt in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death March 10, 1981. On December 31, 1982, Lola was united in marriage with Alfred Beets in Rantoul, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2000. She is survived by her: Son – William J. Spratt of Rantoul, Kansas Daughter – Vivian JoAnne Spratt of Rantoul, Kansas Stepson – David Beets of Ottawa, Kansas Stepson – Darren Beets and wife Faye of Gardner, Kansas Stepdaughter – Toni Jones and husband Brad of Ottawa, Kansas; brother - Donald Beets, Sr. and wife Margaret of Letchworth, England; Grandchildren – Lisa Spratt and husband John Diediker of Osawatomie, Kansas; Joshua and Catherine Spratt of Rantoul, Kansas; Jared and Brooke Beets of Ottawa, Kansas; Brett Jones of Ottawa, Kansas; Devin Jones of Ottawa, Kansas; Riley Beets of Gardner, Kansas; Nolan Beets of Gardner, Kansas; Matt and Ashley Rowan of Ottawa, Kansas; Avery and Jeff Cordray of Gardner, Kansas and Alene and Sam Williams of Gardner, Kansas. Great Grandchildren – 16 She is preceded in death by her: Husband – Clifford J. Spratt Husband – Alfred Beets Parents – Clyde & Edith Beets Sisters – Edith Pauline and Geraldine Minnis Brothers – Joseph Doc Beets and Roy Beets Nieces – Deanna Able and Mary Keith IN STATE: Mrs. Beets will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
