Lois Ecord, age 82, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka, Kansas.
Lois was born in Anderson County, Kansas to Louis and Francis (Tinsley) Ecord. She grew up in the Franklin County, Kansas area where she attended school in both Princeton and in Ottawa, Kansas.
She hauled bulk milk for Mid-America Dairy, owned a ceramic shop in Ottawa, Kansas and worked in the travel industry. Lois also worked at Sequoia Kings Canyon in Three Rivers, California, where she received several accolades for going above and beyond in her requirements in times of wildfires, and for contributing in various other seriously critical situations by keeping calm and for having a level head.
Lois returned to Kansas and worked at Valeo Behavior Health Care and Combat Air Museum.
She had a passion for creativity, whether it was crafting, needle point, or crocheting. Lois will be remembered for her love, laughter, compassion, dedication, feisty nature, and as a fierce protector of those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her son Terry Mace, grandson Dusty Leecy, great-granddaughter Bexley Kay Hughes, mother Francis (Tinsley) Ecord, father Louis Ecord; sisters: Jessie Lickteig, Joan Geer, Eva Stone, and Jeannie Rossman; Brother-in-law Daryl Trendel.
Left to celebrate her life are her children: Susan Layton (Randy Robinson) of Baldwin, Kansas, Wanda Benton (Dave Benton) of Maumelle, Arkansas, Kathy Mace, Karen Proctor, and Gary Mace (Juli Simmons) of Topeka, Kansas; Siblings: Richard Ecord (Linda), Ruth Trendel, Patti Fine (Dean) of Pomona, Kansas, and Ronald Ecord (Vicki) of Monte Vista, Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas.
A private family graveside will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024 at Princeton Cemetery.
