Lois Alecia Burroughs

Lois Alecia (Severns) Burroughs, age 92, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. She was the daughter of the late Abraham Severns and the late Emma (Handley) Severns. She is survived by her one son, Don K. Burroughs and his wife Ruby of Ottawa. In 1989, Lois moved to Ottawa from the Williamsburg area, where she had lived all of her life. Lois attended Williamsburg schools. She worked as an inspector at Mode O`Day for twenty-two years. She was also a homemaker and farmer`s wife. Lois was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church; United Methodist Women; the Tequa Group of EHU; Past Matron of the Sadana Chapter #194, Order of the Eastern Star, where she received her fifty-year pin and held several offices; and, the Friendship Club, all of Williamsburg. On March 30, 1929, Lois was united in marriage with Howard F. `Shorty` Burroughs at Mt. Olivet. He preceded her in death September 7, 1978. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, with Eastern Star services by Sadana Chapter #194. OFFICIANT: Rev. Gail Bower. IN STATE: Mrs. Burroughs will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Thursday, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Sadana Chapter #194, Order of the Eastern Star, or Williamsburg United Methodist Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas.
