Lloyd W. Sillyman

May 3, 1927 — June 15, 2016

Lloyd Wayne Sillyman, age 89, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully, June 15, 2016, at Overland Park Regional Hospital, surrounded by those who loved him. Lloyd was born May 3, 1927, in Rosedale, Kansas to Zora Sillyman and Nellie Mae (Williams) Sillyman. Lloyd attended Argentine High School where he lettered in several sports including football and track. He pole vaulted with a bamboo pole. His grandson, Brian Johns, followed in his Grandpa"s footsteps as a pole vaulter. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served in World War II in Okinawa, Japan on the USS Landing Craft Floating Flotilla 786. He enjoyed many shipmate reunions throughout the years. He was accompanied by his son, Tom, on "Honor Flight", several years ago. He flew to Washington DC to be honored as a veteran and to view the World War II memorial. It was a very memorable highlight in his life. He married Deloris Irene Stephenson on July 9, 1949 at his parents" farm home outside of Louisburg. They were married for 67 years. They welcomed one son, Thomas Wayne and two daughters, Cindy Lou and Cathy Irene to their union. They were active in all their children"s, grandchildren"s and great grandchildren"s activities. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline in Louisburg, for 39 years. He made countless lifelong friendships there. He also enjoyed the Panhandle breakfasts and picnics for the retirees. He and Deloris were "snow birds" for 20 years,in Alamo Texas, Trophy Gardens. They treasured the many friendships made there that continue today. They both shared a love of the "Big Band" sound. They loved to dance and everyone around loved to watch them. Lloyd never missed an opportunity to pull Deloris out on the dance floor. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Leslie Sillyman, who passed away earlier this year. He is survived by his wife, Deloris, of the home; one son, Tom (Mary Kay) Sillyman; two daughters, Cindy Hauer (Garry) and Cathy Johns (David); six grandchildren, Brandi Guetterman, Melissa Trochim, Megan Thornton, Brett Hauer, Matthew Johns and Brian Johns; and nine great grandchildren, Sydney Thornton, McKenna Hauer, Delaney Guetterman, Braxton Guetterman, Scott Thornton, Keily and Hudson Hauer and Peyton and Hunter Johns and two sister-in-laws, Sarah Sillyman and Earlene Little.
