Lloyd Gaile Wheeler was born October 8, 1926, at Queens City, Missouri. He was the son of Joel Chipman and Anna Ethel (Hays) Wheeler. From 1960 to 1972, he lived in Rockford, Illinois. In 1972, he moved to Olathe, Kansas, and Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas in 1991, where he made his home until his death Thursday, January 16, 2003, at the age of seventy-six years. Lloyd graduated from Olathe (Kansas) High School with the class of 1944. He was employed with Elco Engineering, as a machinist. In the 1980's and early 1990's, he was groundskeeper for the Olathe Unified School District, retiring in 1992. Mr. Wheeler served with the United States Navy from 1941 to 1945, during World War II, in the Pacific Theater. He served as a machinist mate aboard the USS Fox. He was a fifty-year member of both the Earl Collier Post #153, American Legion, Olathe, and Olathe Lodge #19, A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #2993, of Olathe. On February 9, 1945, Lloyd was united in marriage with Thelma Louise Reed at Olathe, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 25, 1993. He is also preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell Wheeler; four brothers, Harold, Claude, Vernie and Ray Wheeler; and, two sisters, Delora Jones and Marjorie Bishop. He is survived by two sons, Howard Wheeler of Manhattan, KS, Glenn L. Wheeler of Mexico, MO; brother, Boyd Wheeler of Lancaster, MO; and, eight grandchildren, Christopher, Kameron, Kathryn, Lyndsey, Callie, Reed, Allison, and Cole Wheeler. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Fr. Sam Mason.
