Linda Lou Smith

Linda Lou Smith, age 77, passed peacefully August 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at Springfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Springfield, Missouri.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas. Funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.

Linda was born August 5, 1947 in Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of Orville A. and Lila M. (Guge) Beaty. Linda lived in Ottawa all through her school years. She went on to graduate from Ottawa High School. As an adult, Linda also lived in Sylacuga, Alabama, Neodesha, Kansas, and Branson, Missouri. During her time in Neodesha, she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary – going through the 3rd District office chairs of Post #5962.

Linda was united in marriage in Neodesha, Kansas on September 9, 1997 to Logan Kent Smith. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her parents Orville and Lila Beaty; son Anthony “Tony” Slocum and great-grandson Abel Slocum.

Survivors include daughter Kimberly (Erik) Christensen, of Kirbyville, Missouri; sons Jonathan “Jon” Slocum, of Ottawa, Kansas and Lonnie (Tina) Slocum, of Cedar Creek, Missouri; sisters Charlotte Holmes, of Sylacauga, Alabama and Tracy Lang, of Kansas City, Kansas; brother Leroy Beaty, of New Strawn, Kansas; 10 grandchildren plus many adopted grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) and many adopted great-grandchildren.
