Lillian R. Peuser Tallio Obituary
Lillian (MumMum) R. Tallio, 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family. Born on January 26, 1922, in Louisburg, KS, to William and Rose Peuser, she led a life full of love, service, and joy.
As a young woman, Lillian answered her country’s call and worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in DeSoto, where she met her late husband, Anthony (Pope) L. Tallio. She later worked at the Viva Shop on the Paola Town Square, an exclusive women’s clothing store. Lillian graduated from Paola High School in 1940 and was often compared to the late actress and comedian Betty White for her vivacious spirit and infectious laughter.
Lillian was a longtime member of Paola Holy Trinity Catholic Church, crediting her faith for all the blessings in her life. She kept a prayer list that she updated regularly to pray for her family and friends. Lillian enjoyed serving at the food kitchen in KCK with her sister Agnes and had a variety of hobbies, including cooking, baking, playing cards like Kings on the Corner (which she often won), and dice (Greedy). She loved watching the Royals & Chiefs, celebrating each score with a shot of Hot Damn. Known as the "Hostess with The Mostest," Lillian greeted everyone who walked through her door with a warm hug, kiss, and abundant food and drink.
Lillian, or “MumMum,” had an incredibly positive outlook on life. She cherished her family above all and valued her large group of friends immensely. She had a special way of making everyone feel like her favorite, listening to their problems without judgment and keeping many secrets. Her Thursdays were dedicated to getting her hair done, grocery shopping, and hosting the famous “Thirsty Thursday” gatherings with her signature drink, the “Paralyzer.”
Lillian attributed her long life to surrounding herself with family and friends and maintaining a positive attitude. She is survived by her three daughters, Janice Lowery of Columbia, MO, Deb Tallio of Paola, KS, and Antoinette Warren of Sedalia, MO; five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 9-10 am, followed by a funeral mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or Olathe Hospice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary-Paola Chapel 305 N. Pearl St. Paola, KS 66071.
Rest assured, MumMum is clipping coupons and this article into a scrapbook in Heaven. We welcome all to join us on this commemorative “Thirsty Thursday” on July 18th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at her home, which she shared with her granddaughter and “roomie,” Laura January.
