Lillian I. Jackson, 99, of Ottawa, Kansas died on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born on Friday, January 15, 1909, in Esbon, Kansas, the daughter of George Johanek and Anna (Beneshek) Johanek. She has lived in Lawrence, Kansas for the last 2 ½ years moving there from Ottawa where she had lived since 1995. She has also lived in Concordia, Kansas, Goodland, Kansas, and Esbon, Kansas. Lillian graduated from Esbon High School with the class of 1927. She then attended college in St. Louis, Missouri. She taught in a one room school house in Esbon in the 1930’s. In the 1950’s she substitute taught in Goodland. In the 1960’s she was a librarian in Goodland and was instrumental in establishing a new library for the Goodland Community. She was also a homemaker. Lillian was a member of the Ottawa Retired Teachers Association, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Sacred Heart Alter Society, all of Ottawa. Lillian was united in marriage with Ralph R. Jackson. He preceded him/her in death in February of 1983. Survivors include Daughter-Bonnie and her husband Gus Harber of Ottawa, Kan. Daughter-Karen and her husband Bill Harrison of Minneapolis, Minn. Son-John and his wife Kim Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colo. Sister-Josephine Frost of Esbon, Kan. Grandchildren-Eleven Great Grandchildren-Six She was preceded in Death by Husband-Ralph R. Jackson Sister-Alma Johanek Sister-Mary Gass Brother-Paul Johanek Brother-Fred Johanek Sister-Martha Johanek Father-George Johanek Mother-Anna (Beneshek) Johanek SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Graveside services will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas, 3:30 p.m., Wednesday January 7, 2009. IN STATE: Mrs. Jackson will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour where a rosary will be said 6:30 p.m. followed by the family meeting with friends from 7 to 8 Tuesday evening.
