Lexie Mae Jones, 82, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at Olathe Medical Center. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Lexie was born June 8, 1939, in Pomona, Kansas, the daughter of Karl Francis and Eunice Pauline (Gould) Johnson. She spent most of her life in the Pomona/Ottawa area. She graduated from Pomona High School with the Class of 1957. On September 8, 1957, Lexie was united in marriage to Kenneth C. Jones in Ottawa, Kansas. They were married nearly 50 years before Kenneth died on May 1, 2007. Lexie had several occupations throughout her lifetime including Mode O’Day seamstress in the 1960’s; H.D. Lee seamstress in the 1970’s; Budges Hardware as a sales clerk in the late 1970’s; owned and operated the Tree of Knowledge Christian Bookstore in Ottawa, in the late 1970’s; Child Protective Services - Kansas Department for Children from the early 1980’s until her retirement in 2004; and for several years, Lexie was a school bus monitor for USD 290. She was a very active and social member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Lexie loved her family and friends and the time they spent together. She always looked forward to the time she had with her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ernest Johnson, Alice Morris, William Johnson, and Katherine Watson. Survivors include four children, Duane Jones (Diane) of Eugene, Oregon, Colleen Fleming (Brad) of Pomona, Kansas, Ellie Short (James) of Moriarty, New Mexico, and Kelly Bulmer of Ottawa; sister Mabel Gast (Marvin) of Emporia; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
