Letha May Mccracken

Letha May McCracken passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Retirement Village on Monday, July 30, 2012. She was 100 years old. She was born on Tuesday, January 9, 1912, in Pratt County, Kansas, the daughter of Horace Elmer and Lyta Frances (Peters) Womble. She was a lifelong Franklin County and Ottawa resident. She graduated from Old Rantoul Grade School and Rantoul High School with the class of 1930. Letha May was a devoted lifelong homemaker; she also owned and operated McCracken’s Gifts in downtown Ottawa in the 1960’s. Letha May was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa, serving on various church committees and a member and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was also a leader in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, past president of the Parent-Teacher Association, Guardian of Bethel #31 of Ottawa Jobs Daughters and Grand Guardian of Jobs Daughters of Kansas. Letha May served several years on Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, former member and past president of Business and Professional Women, member and past president of Ottawa Soroptimist Club, Retta Conclave #8, Order of True Kindred, life member and past Matron of Union Chapter #15, Order of Eastern Star and past District Aid and a member of the 1928 winning Royal Neighbors of America Drill Team. On January 11, 1930 Letha May was united in marriage to Wilsey Phil McCracken at Paola, Kansas. She is survived by her: Son – Larry McCracken and wife Kay of Overland Park, Kansas Daughter – Shirley Terrill and husband Joe of Topeka, Kansas Grandchildren – 9 Great-grandchildren – 19 Great-great-grandchildren – 12 Great-great-great-grandchildren – 4 She is preceded in death by her Husband – Wilsey Phil McCracken Daughter – Beverly Clark Hughes Granddaughter – Melinda McCracken Great-grandson – Shaun Strain SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the church. IN STATE: Mrs. McCracken will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
