Letafay B. Weien, 98, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Ottawa, KS, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Casa de las Campanas, San Diego. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Letafay was born March 29, 1919, at Granby, MO, the first daughter of Alfred Francis and Pearl Pauline (Palmer) Blunk. She lived in various locations throughout her life, including Granby, MO from 1919 to 1925, Treece, KS from 1925 to 1940, El Dorado, KS from 1940 to 1943, Big Springs, TX from 1943 to 1945, Ottawa, KS from 1945 to 1970, Omaha, NE from 1970 to 1985, Ottawa, KS from 1985 to 1995, Springfield, MO from 1995 to 2004, and San Diego, CA from 2004 to 2018. She graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in Columbus, KS, and El Dorado, KS, secretarial college. Letafay was united in marriage to Warren G. Weien November 25, 1943 in Ottawa, who preceded her in death on February 6, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Pearl Blunk; sister, Esther Heavin; and brother, Alfred Blunk. Survivors include her two sons, Glen F. “Jeff” Weien and wife Jewel of San Diego, CA and Robert W. Weien and wife Gail of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Geoffrey Weien and wife Elizabeth Burmeister Weien, Gwendolyn Weien Johnson and husband Peter Tallman Johnson, Mary Alice Weien, and Sarah Weien; and five great-grandchildren, Ada Weien, Henry Weien, Madeline Johnson, Harper Johnson, and Regan Johnson. She was employed as a secretary for 40 years with various financial firms, including Anchor Savings and Loan in Ottawa and banks in Omaha, NE, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Ottawa Grace Episcopal Church, the church Altar Guild, a Cub Scout den mother, and a member of the PTA. Letafay enjoyed doing needlepoint and collecting antiques.
