Lester Merril Miller, age 89, of Louisburg Kansas passed away February 20, 2019 at his home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 606 S. Elm Street Louisburg KS, with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. at the church. The family suggests In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Kansas City Young Marines, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Crossroads Hospice care. C/O Dengel & Son Louisburg Chapel P.O. Box 669 Louisburg, KS 66053 Lester was born March 16, 1929 in St Joseph Missouri to Joseph Theodore Miller Sr & Rosie Etta (Mitchell) Miller. He was one of 12 children. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 14, 1946 and was honorably discharged on May 8, 1948. He went to work for Bendix and worked there for 42 years. During that time, the company changed names several times; Bendix, Allied-Signal & Honeywell. He always had a story about pranks that were pulled at “the plant”. He retired from Honeywell in March 1991. While working there he met and married Patricia Ann Lohkamp Lemar on August 8, 1970 in Kansas City Missouri. Lester was a life member of the Marine Corps League and VFW and remained very interested in history especially World War II history. With the assistance of fellow Marine Corps League members, they established the Young Marines of Kansas City in 1995. The very first chapter of the Young Marines in Kansas City. Lester served at different times as Unit Commander, a Battalion Commander and the Regimental Commander. Lester also worked very hard to establish other chapters throughout the states of Missouri, Kansas & South Dakota. Lester enjoyed working with his wife Patricia on genealogy and they made several trips to visit cemeteries and county court houses throughout the Midwest to research family lines. He was a good and caring husband; father; grandfather; great-grandfather and great great grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Rosie; 3 brothers, Joseph Jr, Fred, & Melvin; 3 sisters, Mary Anna Thomason Russell, Inez Elizabeth Miller, & Laura Kathleen Fowler; 1 daughter, Mimi Patrice (Miller) Patton; 1 great granddaughter, Mya Patrice Scott He is survived by his wife of 48 years Patricia Miller of the home; Stepdaughter, Sandra Smith Huffman of El Dorado Springs Missouri; Son, Merril Miller of Kansas City Missouri; Stepdaughter, Denise (Kern) Ward of Louisburg Kansas; 4 sisters, Velma Lykins of St joseph Missouri, Nora Towndrow of Canyon Texas, Frances Balbin of St Joseph Missouri, Beverly Stout of St Joseph Missouri; one brother, Herman Miller of Kansas City Kansas; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
